“…During thermal destructive processes, some amounts of metal are chemically incorporated into the glass structure in the form of oxides or other substances, and other metal components are separated and recycled for reuse [ 92 ]. Thermal-chemical approaches like Cement-lock ® , Novosol ® , and HPSS ® technology are widely applied ( Table 4 ) [ 113 , 114 , 133 ]. The thermoplastic polymer process uses the property of thermoplastic polymers to become flowing when heated and solid when cooled to encapsulate contaminants.…”

“…Aliquots of about 10 mg of homogenized soil were digested, by means of a mixture of 3 ml of aqua regia (1:3 HCl: HNO 3 ), 5 ml of ultrapure water, and 0.5 ml of 48% hydrofluoric acid (HF) solution, in a sealed PFA vessel using an Ethos 1600 microwave oven (Milestone). After the digestion, 1 ml of a saturated B(OH) 3 solution was added to each sample to neutralize the remaining HF (Calgaro et al, 2019). ICP-MS was used in standard, reaction (dynamic reaction cell), and collision (kinetic energy discrimination) mode, based on the severity of polyatomic interferences, to obtain the lowest detection limit for each element (information on reagents and instrument settings is reported in the Supporting Information Material S1).…”

“…They were able to determine the maximum amount of dredged cement that can be used before the mortar started to lose its self-compacting properties. Sediments from the Mincio River (Italy) containing hydrocarbons and Hg were subjected to thermal desorption and wet conditioning (Calgaro et al, 2019). Results showed that the treatment resulted in reductions in contaminant leaching and improved mechanical properties and granule quality.…”
