Energy Management Systems for Residential Buildings With Electric Vehicles and Distributed Energy Resources

This paper proposes two electric energy management systems (EMSs) in the context of a gridconnected residential neighbourhood with electric vehicles (EVs), battery storage, and solar photovoltaic (PV) generation. The EMSs were developed to minimize the cost of electricity whilst having no impact on routine individual energy needs and travel patterns. The EMSs were evaluated using common sets of real data with the aim to compare the effectiveness of a centralized EMS with decentralized EMS. The models also accounted for the battery capacity degradation and the associated costs. Simulation studies and numerical analyses were presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed EMSs considering a high-density residential building in Sydney, Australia. The simulation results indicate that the centralized EMS is more effective compared to the decentralized EMS in terms of cost savings. It is also observed that the energy management strategies significantly reduce the energy drawn from the grid compared to un-optimized energy management schemes.

The penetration of renewable energies of Direct Current (DC) to the Distribution Network of Direct Current of Medium Voltage (MVDC) is already a reality. Therefore, extensive planning is required for its location in the electrical network. The implementation of this energy brings great advantages to the system since it contributes to the reduction of losses, improvement of the voltage profile, greater reliability in the system since there is generation of the photovoltaic system installed and of the distribution company. This article was carried out through a bibliographic review of the bases IEEE Xplore, Science Direct, Taylor & Francis and related academic knowledge, identifying several positive and negative aspects of this new reality of renewable energy, in the same way it was analyzed the Energy Storage System (BESS) and the impact of Electric Vehicles (EV) on distribution networks.

The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is a convergence of the mobile Internet and the Internet of Things (IoT), where vehicles function as smart moving intelligent nodes or objects within the sensing network. This paper gives two contributions to the state-of-the-art for IoV technology research. First, we present a comprehensive review of the current and emerging IoV paradigms and communication models with an emphasis on deployment in smart cities. Currently, surveys from many authors have focused concentration on the IoV as only serving applications for intelligent transportation like driver safety, traffic efficiency, and infotainment. This paper presents a more inclusive review of the IoV for also serving the needs of smart cities for large-scale data sensing, collection, information processing, and storage. The second component of the paper presents a new universal architecture for the IoV which can be used for different communication models in smart cities to address the above challenges. It consists of seven layers: vehicle identification layer, object layer, inter-intra devices layer, communication layer, servers and cloud services layer, big data and multimedia computation layer, and application layer. The final part of this paper discusses various challenges and gives some experimental results and insights for future research direction such as the effects of a large and growing number of vehicles and the packet delivery success rate in the dynamic network structure in a smart city scenario.
