Conjunctival Involvement in Lymphomatoid Granulomatosis

Abstract: Lymphomatoid granulomatosis is an angiocentric and angiodestructive lymphoproliferative disorder involving multisystems but rarely conjunctiva. We present a 62-year-old Chinese female with lymphomatoid granulomatosis who had an ulcerative conjunctival nodule. Conjunctival biopsy revealed pathological findings important for diagnosis and indicating progression of disease severity. To our knowledge, this is the first report to demonstrate pathological findings characteristic of lymphomatoid granulomatosis with c… Show more

“…Furthermore, there are surprisingly no reports on orbital LYG. In the relatively few reports of ocular LYG,15 pulmonary LYG appeared first, followed by ocular symptoms, while our patients had no pulmonary symptoms. Although the orbital LYG could not be seen in detail with MRI, visual loss and disc swelling might occur by compressing the optic nerve and its blood supply, but not direct invasion of orbital tumour.…”

“…Ocular LYG is an extremely rare tumour, which appears as ocular granulomatous inflammation (conjunctival infiltration,1 posterior uveitis,2 choroidal vasculitis,3 optic neuropathy,4 and retinal detachment5), with only a few reports in the medical literature. Furthermore, there are no reports of primary orbital LYG without pulmonary LYG.…”

“…It should be noted that although ocular manifestations in LYG are uncommon, case reports do exist that document involvement of structures including the optic nerve [ 6 ], retina, sclera, and eyelid. Conjunctival involvement has also previously been described [ 7 ]. Reported clinical manifestations vary according to the ocular structure involved, but are generally diverse, ranging from ulcerative skin nodules [ 7 ] to sudden unilateral blindness to uveitis.…”
