“…4 a the children are able to lead a near normal social and school life. The incidence of diarrhoea is no different than normal children and colonic dilatation (seen in two of our patients only) has not occurred in the long term (vide follow-up at 12 years), though this has been reported by other authors [15]. Though there is no mass peristalsis in the coloplasty tube as in normal colon, it propels stool distally and serves its re-absorptive functions reasonably well.…”

“…Many of these reports addressed possible reasons for severe complications like re-dilatation of the tubularized colonic pouch after pull-through surgery [4,6,8,10,11]. Gangopadhyaya et al reported in their large series on the histopathologic examinations of the resected pouches and pointed out that these structures have abnormally developed tissue and need to be resected for better functional outcome [9].…”

“…All these gastrointestinal complications may cause a failure to thrive and a loss of quality of life. Poor continence with high stool frequency was described after pullthrough of ileum in patients with CPC type I/II [6]. Our intention to retain a tubularized pouch colon was to reach continence to a certain extend in contrast to ileum pull through.…”

“…There are many reports for initial treatments and problems of CPC cases in the literature, but although the functional results and problems regarding prognosis in later periods are limited, the recent results of Puri et al [13] are very conspicuous. They reported that despite normal sacrum, well-developed sphincteric muscles, and a good operation, long-term prognosis of fecal continence, growth and development, and quality of life appears to be unsatisfactory for all subtypes of CPC [13]. These patients can face recurrent attacks of diarrhea, enterocolitis, and redilatation after coloplasty as well as fecal soiling; and they may eventually need a permanent colostomy [4].…”
