“…The vermiform appendix appears at 8 weeks of gestation as a diverticulum in the embryonic cecum, then a funnel-like thinning of the lower cecal segment and elongation occur, and it becomes fully developed at 10 weeks. Few aetiological hypotheses that might cause a failure during this process and origin AVA are recognised, such as a secondary effect of maternal ingestion of thalidomide during pregnancy, or as a result of an intrauterine vascular accident 6 9 15 22.
