Confirmation rates of array-CGH in day-3 embryo and blastocyst biopsies for preimplantation genetic screening

Abstract: Both types of biopsies showed similar high concordance rates with whole blastocyst results. Therefore, regarding the confirmation rates shown in this work, day-3 embryo biopsies can be representative of the whole embryo and both types of biopsy can be used for clinical analysis in PGS following the described array-CGH protocol.

“…Embryo biopsy was performed on d3, although we had previously demonstrated a high correlation between the results obtained on d3 or d5 after biopsy even though the array-CGH protocol for PGS is used [32]. It should also be noted that nowadays our donors are stimulated according to a GnRH antagonist protocol and undergo GnRH triggering in all cases to avoid ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).…”

“…Such studies have been carried out previously during the evaluation of aCGH. These investigations have demonstrated a good correlation, with little impact of mosaicism on diagnostic accuracy (20)(21)(22)(23).…”

“…Nevertheless, the current knowledge about chromosomal defects in preimplantation embryos explains that meiotic errors imply that all the cells of the embryo carry the same chromosomal error while mitotic errors imply that some cells will have different chromosomal content (mosaic embryos).
