Conductive concrete made from recycled carbon fibres for self-heating and de-icing applications in urban furniture

Abstract: This paper studies the microstructural and tribological differences of layers formed during the ferritic nitrocarburizing of AISI 4340 alloy steel and AISI 347 stabilized stainless steel. The samples were exposed to different times of immersion in a nitrocarburizing bath (60, 75, 90, 105 and 120 min) at 580 °C. Subsequently, they were subjected to an oxidation process at 480 °C in order to form a Fe3O4 layer. Surface microstructural studies were carried out by SEM-EDS and x-ray diffraction (XRD). Wear and fric… Show more

“…The effect of the type and content of industrial waste on electrical, and thermal properties of cement-based materials have been investigated by many researchers. The conductive materials studies include steel fibers and steel shavings (18,27,36), Slag (28), graphite (34), lathe turns of aluminum, powder of brass and cast iron, copper slag and lignite bottom ash (37), recycled carbon fiber (38), graphite tailing (23), and recycled conductive rubber crumbs (16). The overall conclusions from using these materials indicated their capability to enhance the electrical conductivity.…”

“…On the other hand, building materials have heterogeneous compositions and microstructures; therefore, they tolerate compositional variations in waste from different campaigns. In recent decades, several studies have focused on the reuse of waste as a raw material in the manufacture of different construction materials, such as various types of clinker [ 5 ], cement [ 6 , 7 , 8 ], mortars [ 9 ], concretes [ 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 ], geopolymers [ 14 , 15 ], clay bricks [ 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 ], ceramic tiles [ 21 , 22 ], and roof tiles [ 23 , 24 ].…”

“…Research into sustainability in urban furniture focuses, above all, on the search for materials framed in the field of eco-design [11]. Thus, in different works, the materials commonly used in urban furniture such as wood [12] and concrete [13] are studied. In the context of recycled materials, one of the branches of research focuses on the search for applications [14].…”
