Conducting Polymers: Concepts and Applications

Abstract: The developments in the field of electrically conducting polymers have grown very rapidly since the discovery and there is a very sharp increase in conductivity when intrinsically insulating organic conjugated polymers are doped with oxidizing and reducing agents. An overview of technological developments involving conducting polymers clearly indicates that the field expands at unprecedented rates. The manuscript first introduces the conducting polymers (CPs), conducting mechanism, concepts of doping and brief… Show more

“…This creates partially filled bands in which the charge carriers can freely move; this is typical of metallic‐like materials. [ 34 ] As indicated by the blue arrows in Figure 1, generation of intragap energy levels changes the amount of energy required for an electron to jump to an excited state, and consequently also the emissive radiation followed by an electron relaxation. This influences not only the electronic properties of the conjugated polymer but also its chromic and spectroscopic properties.…”

“…Conductive polymers have been considered in EMI magnetic interfering rechargeable batteries, catalysts and sensors and electrodes and various other fields (Mishra, 2018;Ibanez et al, 2018). Conductive polymer can be used with magnetic nanoparticles in EMI magnetic interfering to increase the width of the frequency absorption of the 8 to 18 GHz waves.…”

“…All conducting polymers have π-conjugation across the polymer backbone; typical conducting polymers include polyaniline (PANI), polypyrrole (PPy), polythiophene and polyacetylene. These are shown in Fig.1 [5]. Conjugated conducting polypyrrole (PPY) has been well known for many years which can be synthesized either chemically or electrochemically [6].…”
