Condition Assessment and Adaptation of Bailey Bridges as a Permanent Structures

Abstract: The present study assessed the Bailey Bridge’s condition and investigated its adaptation as a permanent structure, targeted the Acrow Bailey Bridge in Japan. Field diagnostic loading experiments were performed under various loading conditions, such as dynamic and static loading tests. The onsite data were obtained using a transducer, friction strain gauge, target measurements for the image processing approach, and accelerometer. From the field measurements, the deflection and stresses of the bridge were found … Show more

“…Because of that, modular bridges have been extensively utilised as temporary erectable structures to recover damaged or destroyed communication paths [1]. However, its versatility has also allowed modular bridges often to be used as permanent structures [2]. The main problem regarding this type of bridges comes from the deformations caused by the dynamic loading.…”

Kusimba et al [11] assessed the structural health and adaptation potential of the Acrow Bailey Bridge as a permanent structure. Wang et al [12] explored the effect of seismic excitation on the dynamic pressure exerted by water inside a bridge's arch rib using the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) model.…”
