Concurrent engineering approach in the development of composite products: A review

Abstract: Concurrent Engineering (CE) is regarded as a systematic design approach which integrates concurrent design of product with the related processes which is able to accomplish product that can be produced at lower cost, shorter time and with higher quality and this achievement was termed as cost, time and quality (CTQ) improvement. Since its establishment, CE philosophy was well implemented in product development with traditional materials such as metals but up to date, the work on CE in composite product develop… Show more

“…Fiber-reinforced Al-matrix composites have prospectively wide applications in the automotive, aerospace, and advanced weapons industries due to their excellent properties of lightweight and high specific strength, specific modulus, wear resistance, heat resistant, thermal conductivity, and so on. 1,2 Among them, carbon fiber, boron fiber, SiC fiber, Al 2 O 3 fiber, and graphite fiber are mainly used as reinforcements in Al-matrix. In the past few years, extensive researches have been conducted on the fabrication of the fiber-reinforced Al-matrix composites and their mechanical properties.…”

“…Improvement in product development strategies at design stage does improve product quality (Yutong et al 2014). Design activity that is concurrent to manufacturing ensures good quality (Sapuan and Mansor 2014). In this context Nada et al (2006) mapped manufacturing system configuration to the product quality using fuzzy inference mechanism.…”
