Conceptualising a Hybrid Flying and Diving Craft

Abstract: This paper introduces the conceptual design of a submersible seaplane that merges the maturity of the wing-in-ground (WIG or ekranoplan) crafts and seaplanes with covert hybrid underwater insertion, travel, and recovery. WIG crafts have a higher lift-to-drag ratio and thus improved endurance, while hybrid crafts have recently become feasible due to advances in materials, electric propulsion, and multi-medium computational fluid dynamics.
