Web information systems are nowadays widely used. E-business, edutainment, infotainment, community and identity Web systems are data and information intensive. They integrate a variety of database, workflow and other processing, communication and presentation systems. Their design and development is thus based on an integrated development of structuring, functionality, distribution and interactivity of users. The codesign framework allows the integration of these different aspects. This chapter surveys the codesign approach and its deployment for the development of large Web information systems.

Abstract-In the development of large and complex applications is difficult to satisfy unique customer requirements without stretching development time. The need to support adaptability of applications is growing because of dynamic business processes. We analyzed of the literature in this domain. The analysis has shown that combination of the existing paradigm of application development is a good approach to support adaptability of business applications. This paper presents a multi-layered MetaModel for enterprise applications and platforms that we have created on our multi-layered Meta-Model.

Conceptual modeling continues to evolve as both practitioners and researchers reflect on the challenges of modeling and implementing data-intensive problems that continue to appear in business and in science. These challenges of data modeling and representation are well-recognized in contemporary applications of big data, ontologies, and semantics, along with traditional efforts associated with methodologies, tools, and theory development. This introduction contains a review of some current research in conceptual modeling and identifies emerging themes. It also introduces the articles that comprise this special issue of papers from the 32 nd International Conference on Conceptual Modeling.
