Conceptual Design of the Laser Systems for the Attosecond Light Pulse Source

Abstract: The high repetition rate laser systems providing the ELI-ALPS facility with TW-to-PW peak intensity pulses are designed to generate secondary light sources with a duration of tens of attosecond for basic and applied researches.

“…As an example, the Extreme Light Infrastructure -Attosecond Light Pulse Source (Szeged, Hungary) is planning a high power OPCPA operating at 100 kHz with a pulse energy of 5 mJ and a duration of sub-5 fs (1 mJ and sub-7 fs is planed in a first phase). 5 A current overview of various OPCPA systems (existing and planned) is given in Fig. 1.…”

“…The first one, ELI-Beamlines is dedicated to the construction and characterization of secondary radiation sources, such as electrons, x-rays and protons, driven by high repetition rate ultra-intense lasers [2]. The second one, ELI-APS is dedicated to the generation and use of attosecond electromagnetic pulses [3,4]. The third pillar is ELI-Nuclear Physics (ELI-NP).…”

“…Such OPCPAs can be used as driving amplifiers for secondary sources in the field of attosecond technology and science [11]. For example, the Extreme Light Infrastructure -Attosecond Light Pulse Source (ELI-ALPS) in Hungary is planning a high power OPCPA operating at a repetition rate of 100 kHz with a pulse energy of up to 5 mJ and a pulse duration of sub-5 fs (1 mJ and sub-7 fs is planned in a first phase) [12,13]. At such high average powers, however, the absorption of optical power within the crystals cannot be neglected.…”
