Abstract

In the course of this study we have investigateq .and used ideas and information fr.om conceptual design studies and technical reports prepared for the Office of Saline Water, U.S ... Department of the Interior, by various contractoro and we have benefitted 1'rom discussions with representatives of these organizations. The final selection of a plant configuration and process is, in our opinion, the most economical for the ground rules established. Another set of conditions could show some other arrangement to be advantageous. We wish to acknowledge particularly 'the General Electric Company's development of fluted tubes, the work of the W. L. Badger Company on• multistage feed heating, the C. F. Braun Company's conceptual design of the multistage feed-heating process and the concentric-ring plant, the Stearns-Roger Manufacturing Company's operating data from the Freeport Plant, and the contributions of Ferris Standiford of the W. L. Badger Manufacturing Company and Professor Bromley of the University of California at Los Angeles with respect to the vertical plant concept, and the many companies that supplied cost information for various •components.
