Conceptual and instrumental progress in dissolution DNP

Abstract: We discuss conceptual and instrumental progress in dissolution DNP since its introduction in 2003. In our view there are three critical steps in the dissolution DNP process: (i) The achievable polarization level in a sample. (ii) The time required to build up the polarization. (iii) The transfer of the sample to the measurement system with minimum loss of polarization. In this review we describe in detail these steps and the different methodological and instrumental implementations, which have been proposed to… Show more

“…In this publication, we describe the hardware design of a home-built 7 T polarizer suitable for dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization. The design is based on our previous 3.4 T polarizer 30,31 that is in use in our laboratory for basic research 30,32,33 and for in-vivo studies on small animals 34,35 using primarily trityl radicals as electron source.…”

“…A commercial, fully automated system is available, which is suitably scaled for applications in chemistry and pre‐clinical research, while a more recent system is designed for clinical applications . Many recent hardware developments, however, are only available on custom‐built systems . Figure shows the example of the custom‐built system of Ernst and co‐workers …”
