“…Very little information exists describing evidence of global transport of polychlorinated dibenzo- p -dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in the ambient air. Previous researchers have, for the most part, concentrated their studies of these compounds in ambient air in urban or suburban areas with known sources nearby ( ). Some effort to explain regional transport and transformation of PCDDs and PCDFs has been made ( ).…”

“…In this case, the ambient air data is based on long-term monitoring of the urban atmosphere at fixed locations in Niagara Falls, New York (New York State, 1985;Smith et al 1985Smith et al , 1986Smith et al , 1987 and Bloomington, Indiana Hites, 1986, 1987). At this time, we did not have the work of Buck and Kirschmer (1988) in Germany or the U.S. data of Gary Hunt (see this proceedings) or T. Tieman (see this proceedings). The mean and range values take into account the seasonal variation in levels of PCDD and PCDF as well as monitoring locations ranging from downtown to suburban.…”
