“…In air, total DDT and HCH levels ranged from 2.5 to 789.3 pg/m and 15 to 274.7 pg/m, respectively91011. In water, 52.5 and 43.7 ng/L of total DDT and HCH, respectively, was detected12. Dietary intake accounted for more than 90% of the OCPs burden in the general population13.…”

“…In Taihu Basin, total DDT concentrations of up to 1370 ng/l were detected in groundwater samples. Decomposition product concentrations exceeded the p,p 0 -DDT concentrations by orders of magnitude, giving evidence that the groundwater might had been historically polluted with DDT since 1980s (Li et al 2007;Wu et al 2014). Similar results were presented by Li et al (2013), who could demonstrate that the groundwater contamination in a shallow aquifer close to Taihu decreased with distance to the surface water body.…”

“…Heptachlors were produced and used in China in the 1960s and 1970s as a pesticide primarily used against soil insects and termites (Wu et al 2014) as well as termite control in railway sleepers, and production was halted in 1978. In the present study, the content of heptachlor ranged from 4.30 to 13.95 ng g −1 with a mean value of 9.64 ng g −1 in historical cotton fields and 6.49-13.5 ng g −1 with an average of 10.3 ng g −1 in other fields.…”
