Concentration of benzylpenicillin sodium by polyimide nanofiltration membrane

Abstract: In this work, a nanofiltration membrane prepared from soluble polyimide (HQDPA‐DMMDA) was used to concentrate benzylpenicillin sodium solutions at 10 and 14°C. Three benzylpenicillin sodium solutions with the concentration of 7.2, 13.0, and 19.7 g/L were used. The pressure varied from 0.5 to 2.0 MPa. The rejection reached 85% for the solution of 19.7 g/L under 2.0 MPa. To the solution of 7.2 g/L, the largest permeation flux was 9.5 kg/m2 h. Temperature had a slight influence on flux, but the influence on rejec… Show more

“…Many researchers have also evaluated the ability of NF membranes to trap various pharmaceuticals. For example, Shi et al [5] have made the concentration of benzylpenicillin sodium by polyimide NF membrane. The removal of several hormones and antibiotics by NF membranes was studied in mixed solutions [6].…”

“…Traditional applications for industrial membrane separations in liquid systems have been in an aqueous environment. NF has been widely applied in waste‐water treatment and drinking water production for many years, but it has also applications in the treatment of industrial effluents contaminated with organics or heavy metals, in food, and pharmaceutical industries . Organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN) is a more recent and challenging field, opening up new opportunities in the chemical and refining industries.…”
