“…It can be expected that such species will appear earlier in series derived from a strongly oxidizing anion, so that the retention should increase as the oxidation potential of the anion decreases for a series of anions in which the recoil leads to the loss of 0 2 -ions. The results for permanganates,ls chromates, perrhenates 17 and vanadates 18 support this conclusion, although for one of them, the perrhenates, the result might be distorted by the oxidation arising from internal conversion of the capture radiation. The result for the retention in the mixed chromate + sulphate crystal is interesting and not surprising when examined in the light of this hypothesis.…”
