Abstract:Dissimilar metal assemblies are frequently encountered in complex structures, such as in aerospace applications, and pose a major challenge in terms of galvanic-induced localized corrosion. One example of such an assembly is that of high-strength aluminum alloy (AA) components joined with stainless steel (SS) fasteners. Defects in the corrosion protection coating systems at these joint locations facilitate the wicking of aggressive electrolyte species into the confined fastener crevices, creating a hidden macr… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
