Computer science education for students training to be secondary teachers

Abstract: This paper reports on some efforts to provide computer science training for potential teachers in the secondary schools. For those who wish to teach computing concepts, a program consisting of six courses (18 semester hours) of computer science that includes (1) computing concepts studied in the context of both high-level and assembly languages, (2) an exposure to the continuum of applications of computers to education and (3) pertinent electives relative to the students major discipline is outlined.
