“…The application of computers to various fields of dentistry has led to many advances [2]. One among them is computer-guided implant placement [3]. The aim of this work is to critically review the evolution and clinical implications of various dental implant placement techniques with a special focus on computer-guided implant placement techniques.…”

“…Computer-assisted technology was applied in the field of dental implantation for both preoperative planning and intra-operative operation [4]. An image-guided surgical system generates a preoperative surgical plan with the help of patient-specific medical data (2D images or 3D models).…”

“…To fulfil the requirements of prosthetic-driven implantology, several modern technologies, such as computed tomography (CT), 3D implant planning software and computer-aided surgery, have been introduced (20)(21)(22)(23)(24). Special planning software has been developed to allow practitioners to virtually plan location, angle, depth and the diameter of virtual implants, which are then superimposed on the 3D dataset.…”

“…Special planning software has been developed to allow practitioners to virtually plan location, angle, depth and the diameter of virtual implants, which are then superimposed on the 3D dataset. Following very delicate backward planning, the diagnostic wax-up must be visualized on the CT scan through a special radiographic template (23)(24)(25)(26). Such templates are fabricated to provide an exact replica of the desired prosthetic end result and are supported by different radiopaque markers.…”
