Isothermal vapor−liquid equilibrium (VLE) data for 1-propanol + methyl isobutyl ketone at 338.15, 353.15, and 368.15 K and 2-propanol + methyl isobutyl ketone were measured at 323.15, 338.15, and 353.15 K. All the measurements were undertaken on a recirculating VLE glass still operated at isothermal conditions. The experimental VLE data for all the measured binary systems were correlated with the Wilson and NRTL activity coefficient models using the gamma−phi approach (γ−Φ) with the Hayden and O'Connell correlation employed for calculating the second virial coefficients that are used in accounting for nonidealities in the vapor phase. The models provided satisfactory correlation of the measured alcohol−ketone-binary mixtures at all the temperatures reported. The thermodynamic consistency of the data was checked using the point test method of Van Ness et al.

Isothermal vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) data were measured for the systems of butan-2-one (1) + 2-methyl-propan-1-ol (2)/pentan-1-ol (2) using a dynamic low-pressure apparatus. Measurements were undertaken at approximately 333, 343, and 348 K. The VLE data were correlated by minimizing the pressure residual using the combined method with the Wilson and UNIQUAC activity coefficient models being employed for the liquid phase nonideality, using the virial equation of state with the Hayden and O’Connell correlation for the vapor phase nonideality. The Wilson model provided a marginally superior fit of the VLE data to the UNIQUAC model. The thermodynamic consistency of the data was tested, and it was found that all data sets were thermodynamically consistent according to the area and point tests. Excess enthalpies were calculated from the modeled VLE data and were extrapolated to conditions of experimental data from the literature. A good correlation was found between the experimental literature and calculated excess enthalpies.

Experimental vapor−liquid equilibrium (VLE) data using a dynamic apparatus and densities at atmospheric pressure using an Anton Paar DMA-5000 densitometer were measured for the potential biofuel system of propan-2-ol (1) + 2-methyl-propan-1-ol (2) at 333.15, 343.15, and 353.15 K. From these data, the excess properties for volume, Gibbs energy, enthalpy, and entropy were determined. The VLE data were correlated using the γ−Φ approach and non-random twoliquid activity-coefficient models. Thermodynamic consistency testing was conducted, and the VLE data passed the area and point tests. The experimental density data were modeled with an eight-parameter correlation to simultaneously represent composition and temperature. The excess volume was correlated with a Redlich−Kister expansion.
