Computed tomography of the abdomen in Saanen goats: II. Liver, spleen, abomasum, and intestine

Abstract: This study describes the results of computed tomography (CT) of the liver, spleen, abomasum, small intestine and large intestine in 30 healthy Saanen goats. CT examination and anatomical slice preparation postmortem were performed as described in the first communication. After subjective evaluation of the CT images, various variables including the length/size, volume and density of the liver, spleen and gallbladder, the wall thickness of the abomasum, small intestine and large intestine and the diameter of the… Show more

“…This experiment was part of a study on the abdominal anatomy (Braun et al., ,b,c) and digestive physiology of goats (Codron et al., ; Zeitz et al., ) and performed under licence Zurich 69/2008 of the cantonal veterinary office. Ten female adult non‐lactating Saanen goats were kept in groups in indoor enclosures (app.…”

“…Reactive lymph nodes and lymph nodes with metastatic cancer have a similar ultrasonographic appearance, and fine-needle aspiration is required for differentiation. Abdominal ultrasonography (Braun and others 2011b, 2013) and computed tomographic examination of the abdomen (Braun and others 2011a) of 30 healthy female Saanen goats produced excellent images of the small and large intestines but the mesenteric lymph nodes were not seen. The authors are aware of only one study on ultrasonographic examination of the intestinal tract in ill goats.…”
