Computationally efficient CIC‐based filter with embedded Chebyshev sharpening for the improvement of aliasing rejection

Abstract: A cascaded integrator-comb (CIC)-based decimator is proposed, which consists of an area-efficient structure aided with an embedded simplified Chebyshev-sharpened section. Taking traditional CIC filters as a reference, the proposed scheme fulfils two important goals: (i) it improves the worst-case aliasing rejection and (ii) it preserves a low-complexity design that requires fewer hardware resources and consumes less power. The proposed system exhibits regularity, a desirable characteristic not present in other… Show more

“…Example 2: In this example, we compare the filter from Figure 4 with classic CIC filter [1], multistage filters [2][3][4], and single-stage sharpened filter [7]. Table 2 shows the maximum passband deviation, minimum folding-band attenuation, and the number of APOS of these filters.…”

“…Introduction: In the decimation filters of sigma delta analogue-to-digital converters, the cascaded integrator comb (CIC) filter is usually employed due to low hardware complexity. Some sharpened CIC filters are presented with polynomial sharpening and Chebyshev sharpening to improve the resolution [1][2][3]. These sharpening methods are usually not area efficient because of high hardware complexity.…”

“…Introduction: Multiplierless decimation filters are used as building blocks in high-speed multirate systems. Various methods for their design have been considered, resulting in the cascaded-integrator-comb (CIC) filter [1], sharpened CIC (SCIC) filters [2,3], and several filters obtained by modification of the original CIC response [4][5][6][7]. All filters referred to introduce passband droop, which is especially high for SCIC filters utilising folding-band sharpening.…”
