Computational models that predict response to HIV therapy can reduce virological failure and therapy costs in resource‐limited settings

Abstract: The results of genotypic HIV drug-resistance testing are, typically, 60–65% predictive of response to combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) and have proven valuable for guiding treatment changes. However, genotyping is not available in many resource-limited settings (RLS). The purpose of this study was to develop computational models that can predict response to ART without a genotype and evaluate their potential as a treatment support tool in RLS. Random forest models were trained to predict the pro… Show more

“…10 The history of HIV/AIDS in Romania is different compared to the rest of the world, 11 due to the epidemic that occurred in the end of the '80s, when a large number of patients were infected with clade F HIV, 12 mostly children and infants. 13 The number of newly infected adults during those years was low, with a subsequent increase afterwards mainly by heterosexual contact. The children and infants infected in the '80s are today young adults who represent the main population treated with HAART.…”
