Computational model for simulation of lifeboat motions during its launching from ship in rough seas

Abstract: This paper presents a computational model which describes motion of an object of six degrees of freedom (DoF), intended for simulation of spatial motion of one- or two- rope-sling lifeboat or rescue boat during its launching from ship in rough sea. This is a complex model which accounts for sea conditions as well as elasticity and damping properties of davit’s elements and mechanisms, rope and boat hull. Also, are presented results of example calculations for an assumed set of technical par… Show more

“…Each of the above specified objects was described by an appropriate set of parameters defining its features. A comprehensive description and results of operation of RESBO program which performs numerical simulation of behavior of the system composed of the so defined objects are given in [4]. A mathematical model of kinematics of the entire system can be found there too.…”

“…The above described calculation model was implemented in the form of a computer code, written in C++ by dr. Paweł Dymarski and described in [2] and [3]. The code allows to simulate the entire process of boat lowering, from the time of boat hook release to boat setting on water and disconnecting from the ropes on which it was lowered.…”

“…The state of individuals is described by the probability distribution of shape features (overall dimensions) of the evacuated people [3,9,15]. Since the individual in the door is subject to the same danger process in each door opening, the state is indexed by the number of doors in particular bulkheads along the evacuation route (n) and the number of danger (m):…”

“…The permissible load capacity of the door is determined by the buyer when ordering. It is expressed as the maximal water head which can load the door [2,3,5,6,10]. This water head is measured from the lower edge of the door to the lower bulkhead deck surface in the centre plane of the ship.…”
