The Springer-Verlag Lecture Notes provide rapid (approximately six months), refereed publication of topical items, longer than ordinary journal articles but shorter and less formal than mast monographs and textbooks. They are published in an attractive yet economical format; authors or editors provide manuscripts typed to specifications, ready for photo-reproduction.
