In the present study, the vacuum drying process of an apple slice is numerically modeled based on a control volume method. Transient two‐dimensional Navier–Stokes, energy, moisture, and Luikov equations are solved by numerical coding (Fortran) to simulate the simultaneous heat and mass transfer in the ambient and apple slice, respectively. The privilege of using Luikov's model is that the capillary forces are considered, and a differentiation between air, vapor, liquid, and solid is made. Luikov described the two phenomena associated with the transport of air, vapor, and liquids through the porous media as molecular transport and molar transport. The ambient pressure linearly reduced within a minute until it reached a constant value. One of the intellectually demanding preoccupations among researchers is how to simulate the sample and its surroundings with high accuracy of boundary conditions, which enables to avoid the use of empirical transfer coefficients. This study can be scrutinized from various dimensions, among which nonuse of boundary condition between a porous sample and its surroundings is the most conspicuous novelty. Results showed that although at 50 s, isothermal and iso‐moisture lines inside the sample are symmetric, they are not symmetric at 100, 200, and 400 s. In addition, at first minute, pump operation leads to vary the density of the isothermal and iso‐moisture lines around the sample, but at 100, 200, and 400 s, higher temperature and moisture gradients have been achieved at the right and top of the sample surface. Practical Applications Drying is the main technique of food preservation, so that it reduces the humidity of crops and is the most crucial procedure for safeguarding agricultural crops because it has a considerable impact on the condition of parched goods. In this study, some assumptions of drying including using empirical transfer coefficients between sample and its surrounding and vacuum drying under constant pressure have been eliminated. To achieve this goal, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), plays a crucial role to simulate the parameters inside the sample and its ambient without using boundary condition.

The lecture building is the same building as the building in general, namely a building made of wood or concrete construction. During its operation, the potential for damage to an old building or a relatively newly constructed building is very large. There is no data on damage at the University of Palangka Raya that has caused a decrease in the level of productivity of activities carried out by building owners or users so that the condition of the college building is not well maintained. This research was conducted by conducting a survey of filling out the form in the building of the first lecture building of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Palangka Raya. The survey form was analyzed further, 3 categories of component types emerged, namely Architectural: Foundations, Sloof, Columns, Ring Balk, Walls, and Roof Frames, Architectural: Roofs, Ceilings, Floors, Locks, Frames and Leaves, as well as Painting, Utilities: MCK, and Electrical: Electric. The analysis used is descriptive analysis. The results of this analysis show that 3 components, which have a percentage damage of 0.5% of keys, 0.7% of frames and leaves, and 7.37% of painting, with a total of 8.6% fall into the category of damage levels, namely lightly damaged, with a budget of Rp. 759.736.00 for keys, Rp. 3,495.992.39 for frames and leaves, and Rp. 106.463.066.64 for painting, with a total cost of damage of Rp. 110,718,795.02. This research is useful for managers and further research can be a reference in improving the quality of the building.

Indoor air quality is essential in improving indoor well-being since most people spend their time there. The breathing Architecture concept promotes a strategy for designing indoor space to maintain the indoor air quality. This concept has various challenges, such as indoor pollutants determining the indoor environment to be healthy and decent. This study aims to identify the relationship between IAQ variables related to Breathing Architecture and air pollutants based on secondary sources of past and existing research ten years ago. The review identified 16 articles collected by selecting several relevant keywords in ScienceDirect and screening the title and abstract. Content analysis was conducted to analyze the relationship between IAQ variables and pollutants and their potential association with the breathing architecture concept. The results show that air exchange rate, volume of spaces, relative humidity, and indoor-outdoor temperature are the most potential variables and have a possible relationship while implementing the BA concept. Using these variables, the optimal condition might be perceived since the possibility of lower pollutant contamination might be lower, and the purpose of breathing architecture might be obtained. However, the relationship between other variables and pollutants requires future studies since it is undescribed or may impact other variables.
