Computational aesthetics and applications

Abstract: Computational aesthetics, which bridges science and art, is emerging as a new interdisciplinary field. This paper concentrates on two main aspects of computational aesthetics: aesthetic measurement and quantification, generative art, and then proposes a design generation framework. On aesthetic measurement and quantification, we review different types of features used in measurement, the currently used evaluation methods, and their applications. On generative art, we focus on both fractal art and abstract pain… Show more

“…Today's scientists believe that the development of artificial intelligence and commuter learning based on computational aesthetics as well as developing neuron algorithms will drastically change our daily lives [24,25]. The same goes for problems associated with the field of visual arts and the creative process in generalthese could be resolved with aid of artificial intelligence, which will considerably aid in understanding the artistic legacy of artists and designers of the 21st century [26], including the visual approaches used by artists in different historical periods [27,28].…”

“…For the evaluation of aesthetics, visual design elements are analyzed by integrating various computational methods. The measurement of the beauty of images with those methods is called computational aesthetics (CA) [60]. Brachmann and Redies [61] and Tang et al [62] give detailed reviews of concepts and methods of experimental CA.…”

“…The aesthetic appreciation, relating to the enjoyment or study of the beauty, plays a fundamental role in the history and culture of the human being [4]. The study of aesthetics starting from the philosophy has extended to fields of the psychology [22,40], neuroscience [10], and computer science [55].…”
