“…Another RCT [21] had to be excluded because attempts to access data from the authors were not successful. Table I presents the study and patient characteristics of all RCTs included in this systematic review (detailed infor- [22]; the other trial results were from between 1997 and 2008. In four RCTs, the study personnel were blinded [14,[22][23][24], and in one RCT neither the patients nor the study personnel were blinded [25].…”

“…In three RCTs [14,22,23], patients started to wear compression stockings, placebo stockings [22] or no stockings [14,23] within the fi rst 5 to 21 days after diagnosis of DVT. In one trial [25], all patients wore compression stockings for the fi rst six months after the diagnosis of DVT and patients without PTS six months after diagnosis of DVT were randomized.…”

“…In a systematic review of fi ve randomized trials in patients treated for DVT, LMWH (treatment duration for a minimum of three months) was associated with signifi cant increase in venous re-canalization (relative risk ratio 0.66; 95 % CI, 0.57 -0.77) and decrease in venous ulceration when compared with warfarin [7]. A recently published large randomized controlled trial showed no benefi t of graduated compression stockings for the prevention of PTS [8].Infl ammatory biomarkers such as interleukin-6, C-reactive protein (CRP), and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 may be used to predict the development of PTS [1]. In a recent cohort study, cHDL levels < 35 mg/dL and cLDL levels > than 180 mg/dL were risk factors for the development of recurrent thrombosis and PTS [9].…”
