Comprehensive Review on the Clinical Relevance of Long Non-Coding RNAs in Cutaneous Melanoma

Abstract: Cutaneous melanoma is considered a rare tumor, although it is one of the most common cancers in young adults and its incidence has risen in the last decades. Targeted therapy, with BRAF and MEK inhibitors, and immunotherapy revolutionized the treatment of metastatic melanoma but there is still a considerable percentage of patients with primary or acquired resistance to these therapies. Recently, oncology researchers directed their attention at the role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in different types of ca… Show more

“…Among all the identi ed hub-lncRNAs, disregarding the well-known RNA molecules in CRC pathogenicity, some have not been examined directly in the progression of CRC, including NUTM2B-AS1, LINC00943, MCM3AP-AS1 (C1orf132), and SLC9A3-AS1. LINC00943, as an intergenic RNA, was announced as one of the central lncRNAs shown in the former studies as an in uential regulatory factor in malignant tumors and also identi ed and validated as a potential remedy in melanoma malignancy [35].…”

“…LncRNAs play crucial roles in both cellular physiological and pathological processes, including in the pathogenesis of various tumors and often reveal a higher cell/tissue specificity than mRNA (Derrien et al, 2012;De Falco et al, 2021;Turai et al, 2021), so they were suggested as potential valuable diagnostic, prognostic factors even therapeutic targets. Below, we summarize the excellent potential lncRNA candidates for diagnosis, prognosis and therapy in EC.…”

“…Numerous investigations demonstrate that lncRNAs have a signi cance in the gene regulation of various cancers and that they have a role in the development of cutaneous melanoma via several routes and molecular interactions [13]. Compared to protein-coding genes, lncRNAs have been discovered to be substantially expressed in malignancies and thus can serve as potential biomarkers (both diagnostic and prognostic) and therapeutic targets for malignant melanoma [14]. Ping et al identi ed nineteen signatures of ferroptosis-related lncRNAs that were predictive of prognosis in SKCM patients and used bioinformatics analysis to construct a risk model [15].…”
