Comprehensive Kinetics of the Photocatalytic Degradation of Emerging Pollutants in a LED-Assisted Photoreactor. S-Metolachlor as Case Study

Abstract: Although the potential and beneficial characteristics of photocatalysis in the degradation of a good number of emerging pollutants have been widely studied and demonstrated, process design and scale-up are restrained by the lack of comprehensive models that correctly describe the performance of photocatalytic reactors. Together with the kinetics of degradation reactions, the distribution of the radiation field in heterogeneous photocatalytic systems is essential to the optimum design of the technology. Both th… Show more

“…This review focuses on the overall strategies that improve photocatalysis selectivity and encompasses a wide variety of photocatalysts and their modifications, as well as the vital related processes of industrial significance, such as the reduction and oxidation of organics and inorganics and transformation of CO 2 . After optimizing various procedures, the ultimate challenge of this field involves the use of natural sunlight to remediate real wastewater [281][282][283][284].…”

“…The rutile phase was found to not exist as an overlayer on the surface of the anatase particle, but it exists separately from the anatase particles [30]. The application of P25 as a photocatalyst for the photocatalytic degradation of alachlor [28,30] and metolachlor [36,39] has previously been reported. On the other hand, AV-01 is anatase titanium dioxide, used especially in paints, but also applicable for the pigmentation of rubber mixtures or direct injection into paper pulp.…”

“…The degradation of alachlor in aqueous solutions using different heterogeneous photocatalytic systems is relatively well-described in the literature [28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35]. On the other hand, less attention is paid to metolachlor and acetochlor, and their photocatalytic degradation has rarely been investigated [36][37][38][39].…”
