Comprehensive Evaluation of 17 Qualities of 84 Types of Rice Based on Principal Component Analysis

Abstract: Rice quality is a complex indicator, and people are paying more and more attention to the quality of rice. Therefore, we used seven rice varieties for twelve nitrogen fertilizer treatments and obtained eighty-four rice types with seventeen qualities. It was found that 17 quality traits had different coefficients of variation. Among them, the coefficient of variation of chalkiness and protein content was the largest, 44.60% and 17.89% respectively. The cluster analysis method was used to define four categories … Show more

“…Principal component analysis (PCA) is a statistical method that transforms multi-index into a few comprehensive indexes by using the idea of dimension reduction (Xin et al, 2019 ; Wang X. K. et al, 2020 ; Bi et al, 2022 ). These comprehensive indicators retain most of the information of the original indicators (Shi et al, 2021 ; Tang et al, 2021 ). The Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin (KMO) value was 0.582 and Bartlett's sphericity test was p < 0.001, indicating that PCA could be performed (Hao et al, 2022 ).…”

“…With the increase in the nitrogen fertilizer level, the protein content of rice increased significantly, and the amylose content decreased significantly (Figure ). Nitrogen was one of the most important growth elements for plants . After the application of nitrogen fertilizer, rice leaves tended to be greener and more nitrogen is transferred to the grains, so the protein content in the grains is higher .…”

“…Rice production is inseparable from the regulation of cultivation technology, and nitrogen fertilizer is one of the most important cultivation conditions . The components of rice grains are starch (70–80%) and protein (5–7%).…”

“…However, the change in the taste value of rice under different nutrient management has not been studied. Nitrogen management has been proved to be one of the most important factors affecting rice taste quality ( 12 , 13 ). Current research studies have focused on nitrogen fertilizers that reduce the taste quality of rice, and there are only few studies on the evaluation of the taste quality of rice.…”
