Comprehensive Correlation for the Prediction of the Heat Release Characteristics of Diesel/CNG Mixtures in a Single-Zone Combustion Model

Abstract: Fuel combinations with substantial differences in reactivity, such as diesel/CNG, represent one of the most promising alternative combustion strategies these days. In general, the conversion from diesel to dual-fuel operation can be performed in existing in-use heavy-duty compression-ignition engines with minimum modifications, which guarantee very little particles, less nitrogen oxide (NOx), and reduced noise by half compared to diesel. These factors make it feasible to retrofit a CNG fuel system on an existi… Show more

“…This approach is well-known and is commonly used for both experimental data analysis and modeling the thermodynamic cycle of the hydrogen-fueled IC engine. This 1D approach involves various modifications to calculations of c p /c v , the Wiebe function, and modeling EGR and lean mixtures as stated by Misul et al [26], Lebedevas et al [27,28] and others [5,16,29].…”

“…The use of multi-zone MM allows us to study combustion cycle physical processes with sufficient accuracy for solving practical problems. Klaipeda University conducted comprehensive marine diesel engine decarbonization research, including solutions for the rational use of renewable and low-carbon fuels [30][31][32], the use of secondary heat sources in engine cogeneration cycle [33], etc.…”
