Comprehensive analysis of the lncRNA‑associated competing endogenous RNA network in breast cancer

Abstract: Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been confirmed to be potential prognostic markers in a variety of cancers and to interact with microRNAs (miRNAs) as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) to regulate target gene expression. However, the role of lncRNA-mediated ceRNAs in breast cancer (BC) remains unclear. In the present study, a ceRNA network was generated to explore their role in BC. The expression profiles of mRNAs, miRNAs and lncRNAs in 1,109 BC tissues and 113 normal breast tissues were obtained from The Ca… Show more

“…In recent years, The dysregulation and/or prognostic roles of KPNA2 were reported in many tumors including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (Song et al, 2019), breast cancer (Groheux et al, 2018;Wang et al, 2019a), myeloma (Kriegsmann et al, 2019;Tachita et al, 2020), clear cell renal cell carcinoma (Müller et al, 2019), oral cancer (Wang et al, 2018), bladder cancer (Jeong et al, 2017), and colorectal cancer (Ostasiewicz et al, 2016;Jeong et al, 2017). The immune-related roles of KPNA2 were also shown in tumors.…”

“…In recent years, studies have increasingly demonstrated that lncRNAs function as ceRNAs that may sponge miRNAs to decrease their expression and activity, which would thereby regulate the suppressive effects on miRNA targets ( 43 - 45 ). In the present study, lncLocator analysis revealed that LINC01232 was mostly localized in the cytoplasm, consistent with the results of the cell cytosolic/nuclear fraction isolation experiment.…”

“…KPNA2 has been first descripted in matched ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and invasive lesions of the breast [28]. Furthermore, KPNA2 may be the primary determinant for transcription factors transporting and transcriptional activity in various cancers including breast cancer, melanoma, liver cancer, and lung cancer, and therefore is probably related to the cancer cell growth and invasion [15,[29][30][31]. These findings suggest that high KPNA2 expression in patients with breast may be related with worse prognosis.…”
