Comprehensive Analysis of NAC Family Genes in Oryza sativa and Arabidopsis thaliana

Abstract: The NAC domain was originally characterized from consensus sequences from petunia NAM and from Arabidopsis ATAF1, ATAF2, and CUC2. Genes containing the NAC domain (NAC family genes) are plant-specific transcriptional regulators and are expressed in various developmental stages and tissues. We performed a comprehensive analysis of NAC family genes in Oryza sativa (a monocot) and Arabidopsis thaliana (a dicot). We found 75 predicted NAC proteins in full-length cDNA data sets of O. sativa (28,469 clones) and 105 … Show more

“…The NAC domain genes are plant-specific TFs presented as one of the largest multigene families in Arabidopsis , rice, soybean, maize, grape and sorghum etc [3,6,8,57]. Hidden Markov Model (HMM) profile of the Pfam NAC domain (PF02365) was exploited as query to identify the NAC genes in Populus genome (release 2.0, http://www.phytozome.net/poplar).…”

“…NAC ( NAM, ATAF1/2 and CUC2 ) domain proteins comprise of one of the largest plant-specific TFs represented by ~105 genes in Arabidopsis [6], ~140 genes in rice [7] and ~101 genes in soybean genome [8]. NAC proteins commonly possess a conserved NAC domain at the N-terminus, which comprises nearly 160 amino acid residues that are divided into five subdomains (A-E) [6,9,10].…”

“…(2003) identified five subdomains within the NAC domain, and 13 motifs in the transcriptional activation region (TAR). The wheat TaNAC‐S protein sequence contains all five subdomains, as well as a NAC1/NAM group‐specific motif (Fig.…”
