X-ray excited luminescence has been evaluated using Mn doped spinel crystals grown under 50 vol% O 2 -Ar atmosphere with various Mg compositions, x = MgO/Al 2 O 3 , from 0.2 to 1.5. Peak wavelength of X-ray luminescence increases from 515 to 525 nm with composition, x. Peak intensity of X-ray luminescence, which varies with composition, is stronger in crystals with Mg-poor compositions. Mn doped MgAl 2 O 4 is suggested to be potentially useful detector of CuKα X-ray, because of its linear correlation between luminescence peak intensity and X-ray power.
