Compositional Study on Rice Bran Oil after Lipase‐Catalyzed Glycerolysis and Solvent Fractionations

Abstract: Rice bran oil (RBO) was modified through lipase-catalyzed glycerolysis. After 48 h reaction, the reactant (RBO-G, solved in hexane) containing 0.14 mg/mL of MAG, 0.19 mg/mL of DAG, and 0.93 mg/mL of TAG was obtained. Extending the reaction to 72 h resulted in 0.37 mg/mL of DAG with concomitant reduction in TAG (0.68 mg/mL). Two solvent fractionation methods, independent and sequential fractionation, were performed with acetone and hexane at 0, -8, -14, or -35 degrees C. The fraction with most unsaturated fatty… Show more

“…Currently, DAGs can be synthesized both chemically and enzymatically through partial hydrolysis, glycerolysis of TAG, and esterification of fatty acids with glycerol (Kim & Lee, 2006;Lee et al, 2020bLee et al, , 2020aLee et al, , 2007Phuah et al, 2015). Enzymatic esterification can produce relatively higher DAG content than the enzymatic glycerolysis and partial hydrolysis.…”

“…Lipozyme RM IM has been proved to have a better ability to enrich DAG when MAG was used as acyl acceptor in deacidification of high-acid RBO compared with Novozyme 435 and Lipozyme TL IM 19 . However, Kristensen, J. B.…”

“…However, due to a high free fatty acid FFA content varying from about 15 to 40 in crude rice bran oil 16 , harsh refining conditions are thus required if traditional refining process such as physical or chemical refining processes are used, which results in the large loss of neutral fat and minor compounds 17 . Therefore, enzymatic deacidification was chosen for high-acid RBO by conversion of FFA to monoacylglycerol MAG 18 , DAG 19,20 and TAG 21,22 . Its obvious advantage is to improve the yield and increase the production in a comparable mild condition.…”

“…Dietary oils containing high levels of DAG (mostly sn-1,3) are produced by lipase-catalyzed glycerolysis of edible oils and glycerol from which sn-2 monoacylglycerol (MAG) is an expected by-product (Lee et al, 2007). MAG has been found to inhibit fatty acid uptake into rat and human intestinal cells (Murota et al, 2001).…”
