Composites of multiblock (segmented) aliphatic poly(ester imide) with zirconia nanoparticles: Synthesis, mechanical properties, and pervaporation behavior

Abstract: On the basis of pyromellitic dianhydride, p phenylenediamine, and poly(butylene adipate) diol (M n = 1 × 10 3 ) and poly(ethylene adipate) diol (M n = 1 × 10 4 ) taken at a molar ratio of 10 : 1, initial samples of multiblock poly(ester imide) and its composites with nanoparticles of two types-zirconia ZrO 2 surface treated with γ aminopropyltriethoxysilane and zirconia doped with yttria (Y 0.03 Zr 0.97 O 1.985 )-are synthe sized. Nanoparticles are introduced into the polymer matrix at the stage of synthesis o… Show more

“…Chemical approaches to the synthesis of multiblock (segmented) copolyester-imides and copolyurethane-imides (coPUIs) are proposed in general form in previous works [23][24][25]. In these studies, macromonomers with terminal anhydride groups are used which are formed by terminating with tetracarboxylic acid dianhydrides of polyesters having terminal hydroxyl groups (in the case of copolyester-imides) or terminal isocyanate groups (in the case of copolyurethane-imides), respectively.…”

“…As a rule, the polymeric components have not been specially designed to control interactions with the other ingredients. There is also a need for a more "wholistic" design of nanocomposites, whereby both polymeric and non-polymeric components should affect as reagents in solid-phase reactions [122,123].…”

“…Efforts have been made to influence the nature and course of this interface processes in two ways: By choosing a matrix polymer with certain functional groups [121] and surface modification of particles [37,123].…”

“…Aromatic heterocyclic polyimides and their composites attract a great attention during the last years as perspective membrane materials [1][2][3][4][5][6]. The presence of the polar groups and water permeability make these polymers and composites on their base the promising candidates for preparation of membranes for dehydration of different types of organic solvents [2,3,[7][8][9].…”
