Composite Polymer Electrolytes with Improved Lithium Metal Electrode Interfacial Properties: I. Elechtrochemical Properties of Dry PEO‐LiX Systems

Abstract: Several types of lithium ion conducting polymer electrolytes have been synthesized by hot-pressing homogeneous mixtures of the components, namely, poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as the polymer matrix, lithium trifluoromethane su.lfonate (LiCF3SO3), and lithium tetrafluoborate (LiBF4), respectively, as the lithium salt, and lithium gamma-aluminate -y-LiA1O2, as a ceramic filler. This preparation procedure avoids any step including liquids so that plasticizer-free, composite polymer electrolytes can be obtained. The… Show more

“…The interfacial layer between the polymer electrolyte and the lithium metal produces a number of potential reactions: the reaction of lithium and the solvent or impurity, and the lithium salt in the polymer with a possible contribution of the polymer. 22 18 LiTFSI polymer membrane has been proven to be effective in suppressing the reaction of the LTAP plate and the Li metal, as shown in our previous report.…”

“…In addition, the onset of the current during anodic scan, which is representative of the decomposition of the electrolyte, indicates an anodic break-down voltage of approximately 4.3 V vs. Li. So, membrane F5 showed an appreciable anodic breakdown voltage [42].…”

“…35 Polymer electrolytes are historical solid electrolytes for Li secondary batteries. 6,7 Recently, some inorganic sulfides have been reported as highly conductive Li-ion conductors. 8,9 Hayashi et al found that Li 2 S-P 2 S 5 glassy solid electrolytes showed high ionic conductivity comparable to liquid electrolytes.…”
