Composite Material Consisting of HKUST-1 and Indonesian Activated Natural Zeolite and its Application in CO2 Capture

Abstract: In this study, composite materials consisting in HKUST-1 [Cu3(BTC)2] (BTC: benzene 1, 3, 5-tricarboxylate) and an Indonesian activated natural zeolite (ANZ) from Klaten, Central Java, were successfully prepared and characterized. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of the combination of these two materials on the characteristics of the composite as well as to determine its CO2 gas adsorption ability. The composite HKUST-1-ANZ (ANZ@HKUST-1) was synthesized in two different techniques, i.e.,… Show more

“…Broad bands in the spectra of all the samples ( Figure 7 ) may include bands characterizing the overtone of the C = O band at 1668–1691 cm −1 ( Figure 8 ), as well as bands characterizing the stretching vibrations of the aromatic moiety of the btc linkers [ 69 , 70 , 77 , 78 ]. In the region of 3130 to 3070 cm −1 , there are bands from the stretching vibrations of C–H in aromatic rings [ 72 , 79 , 80 ].…”

“…The spectrum of the composite HKUST-1@BPS sample 2 (red) contains absorption bands at 1673, 1587, 1450, 1420, 1394, 1359, 1332, 1251, 1106, 1022, 939, and 885 cm −1 . The spectrum of the composite HKUST-1@BPS sample 3 (blue) contains absorption bands at 1691, 1654 (sh), 1587, 1499, 1450, 1420, 1390, 1251, and 1177 cm −1 , which refer to the vibrations of the framework in these HKUST-1@BPS composite materials [ 69 , 70 , 72 , 76 , 77 , 78 , 79 , 80 ]. The same area includes absorption bands from bending vibrations of CH 3 , i.e., 1454 (antisym.)…”

“…Lestari et al , synthesized a zeolite-MOFs composite from Indonesian activated natural zeolite (ANZ) and HKUST-1. 164 Compared to HKUST-1, the composite showed an increase of 12.1% and 12% in adsorption capacity with 2% and 5% ANZ in the composites, respectively.…”

“…Several examples of zeolite applications as molecular sieves are as follows. Membrane: hierarchical Linde Type-T (h-LTT) zeolite for the fabrication of hybrid membrane in CO 2 /CH 4 separation (Hassan et al 2021;Lestari et al 2020Lestari et al , 2021a, adsorbent: Hierarchical HMOR and HZSM-5 zeolites as adsorbents for mesosulfuron-methyl removal in the aqueous phase (Rasamimanana et al 2016), cation exchanger: the hierarchical X zeolite adsorbent and its Ca 2+ ion-exchanged to enhance nitrogen adsorption capacity (Mousavi et al 2021) and catalyst: zeolite type NaY has been tested for the catalytic activity and selectivity of n-Hexadecane Cracking products (Krisnandi et al 2019a). However, due to its disadvantages from microporous characters, as mentioned above, many applications of zeolites depends on the advanced structure of the zeolite, such as hierarchical and 2D nanosheet structure.…”
