Composite Delamination Detection Using Wavelet Spectral Finite Element and Damage Force Indicator Method

Abstract: This paper presents the detection of delamination in composite plates using the Damage Force Indicator (DFI) method. The global dynamic stiffness matrix of the healthy structure is obtained from Wavelet Spectral Finite Element (WSFE) model condensed to the degrees of freedom consistent with experimental measurements (out-of-plane displacements). The displacement vector for the damaged structure is measured using a scanning laser vibrometer. It is shown that the DFI method gives correct identification of damage… Show more

“…23 The use of plane stress elements to study wave propagation in beams has been reported by several researchers. 13,2022,2426 In all of the numerical examples, the element size in FEM models is chosen based on 20 nodes per wavelength as recommended by Ochoa and Reddy. 27 For simulations, a desktop computer with a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7th CPU and 16 GB memory is used.…”
