“…The specificity of this finding (i.e. symptoms of activation syndrome associated with caregiver 'tension') is similar to that of a multicenter USA study, which reported that domains of family burden were differentially related to patients' characteristics [68] . It underscores the need for continued interaction with family members after the acute inpatient phase of treatment, in order to address the impact of symptoms [68] .…”

“…Parents especially mothers were the caregivers with the highest score (CSI), this finding is consistent with (19) , this is because a large percentage of them are primary caregivers, taking responsibility for all the care of their schizophrenic son. This is due to the greater involvement of mothers, both psychologically and in practice (in their role) (20) and is an aspect that needs to be addressed more actively by mental health professionals (12,22,23) . Some authors have even argued that the care given by mothers is a 'moral obligation' within a patriarchal society, in that this care towards others represents the way they connect with the social sphere (80) .…”

“…In one of the earliest studies on the subject, Magliano et al (18) reported that the family burden decreased in proportion to improvement in the patient's social functionality. Another study concluded that patients' daily hours of work was a predictor of caregiver burden (19). It has been suggested that measures aimed at increasing patients' functionality will have a positive impact on caregivers, and studies testing these measures have shown that increasing levels of patient functionality reduces the caregiver burden (18,(20)(21)(22).…”
