Against the common belief, couching has still been practised by the traditional healers in China (Liu & Su 1992; Liu & Meng 2001), in Nigeria (Ademola‐Popoola & Owoeye 2004; Omoti 2005; Rabiu & Muhammed 2008) and in West Darfur, Sudan (Siddig & Ali 2009). The reason is that the available surgical services for cataract do not cover the increasing need.…”
