The Syrian civil war began and led to a mass migration of Syrians. Almost for a decade, Syrian refugees have been welcomed by Turkey, one of the neighbouring countries of Syria, with support of the European Union. According to reports, in February 2022, officially 3,746,544 Syrian refugees were accomodated in Turkey [1]. The high number of Syrian refugees tend to move to Kocaeli, an industrial city close to Istanbul offering better job possibilities for immigrants. Unfortunately, migration leads not only to loss of housing and occupation, but also difficulty in obtaining health care. Previous studies showed that Syrian women who migrated to Kocaeli, Turkey, tend to bear children at earlier gestational and maternal ages, including adolescent mothers and their infants with lower birth weights [2,3]. All of these might be a result of difficulty in obtaining health care, malnutrition and language barriers.

Background: The general societal belief among Somali women is that anything other than normal vaginal delivery is riskier than could be imagined or anticipated, no matter the delay or prolongation of labor and related complications. This widely circulated perception has become a reason for many expectant mothers to either completely decline to consider c-section or suffer in prolonged labor that could be fatal to either the mother or the baby or both. Methods: This study follows several aspects of the triangulation method of research. It adheres to the case study approach by mixing qualitative and quantitative methods. It uses purposive sampling by selecting 19 women who delivered by c-section at Bay Regional Hospital, Baidoa, Southwest State of Somalia. Results: About 58% had believed c-section as ‘very risky’ or ‘risky’ prior to undergoing the procedure; after delivery 89.5% thought it was either ‘very safe’ or ‘safe’, while none of the respondents considered it to be ‘unsafe’ or ‘very unsafe’ anymore. Conclusion: Women’s perception of c-section changed dramatically after undergoing the procedure as compared to their belief before the surgery. It is also remarkable that they would not hesitate in their next delivery by c-section and that they would recommend it to other women in order to avoid fatal complications. Multiple caesarean sections increase the risk of intraoperative complications: adhesions, damage to the pelvic organs (bladder, ureters, intestines), bleeding with the need for blood transfusion, abnormal placentation, hysterectomy for cae- sarean section, failure of the uterine scar, uterine rupture. The frequency of these complications increases in proportion to the number of previous caesarean sections. Although a causal relationship is often difficult to establish, some of these complications are likely related to surgically induced adhesions. Repeated cesarean section operations are associated with more complex surgical interventions: difficulties in opening the abdominal cavity, difficult separation of the uterus, bladder and ureters from adhesions, the need for blood transfusion and surgical correction of damage to neighboring organs (bladder, ureters, intestines), the need for additional surgical intervention such as hysterectomy . Reducing unnecessary primary caesarean sections and repeat caesarean sections, post-caesarean vaginal delivery, and careful surgical technique can significantly reduce intraoperative surgical complications.
