Complexometric determination of thallium(III) using ethanethiol as a selective masking agent

S), were synthesized and characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, TG-DSC, and singlecrystal and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction data revealed that 1 and 2 are discrete structures, whereas 3 is a polymer. In 1 and 2, Ca 2+ is seven-coordinate and forms a monocapped trigonal prism. In 1, the prisms are pairwise connected with the assistance of two [μ 2 -HTBA-O,O′] − ligands. In 3, Sr 2+ is coordinated by four monodentate HTBA − via S or O donors and four waters, with the formation of a distorted square antiprism. The antiprisms are connected by μ 2 -O,S bridging HTBA − . Hydrogen bonding involving coordinated water and π-π interactions plays an important role in construction of the supramolecular 3-D structures in 1-3. Infrared spectroscopic data supported the structural data. The thermal stability of 1-3 decreases in the order 1 > 2 > 3. Dehydration of 1-3 was a multi-step process, followed by exothermic oxidative degradation of the 2-thiobarbiturate moiety between 290 and 800°C.

In this study, we examined the masking effects of 16 water-miscible reagents, on the extraction of Mo, Re, Ru, and Pd. These reagents included soft N-and/or S-donor atoms in their structures and they function as multidentate ligands. The extractants, methylimino-N,N-dioctylacetamide (MIDOA) and N,N,N',N',N'',), show significantly high distribution ratios for these metals(D(M)), were employed in this study. Masking effects were observed as a decrease in D(M) with an increase of masking agent concentration in these extraction systems. The results showed that D(Pd) can be considerably decreased by the addition of thiourea, cysteine, cysteamine, trisaminoethylamine, and diethylenetriamine, and D(Ru) is decreased by the addition of thiourea, trisaminoethylamine, and diethylenetriamine. Pd and Ru can be masked by similar reagents including N-or S-donor atoms, which suppressed the extraction into the organic phase. In contrast, D(Mo) was only slightly masked by the above-mentioned reagents. The masking of Mo was achieved using methylimino-N,N'-diethylacetamide, hexaethyl-nitrilotriacetamide, iminodiacetic acid, and iminodimethylphosphonic acid, which have a central N(CH 2 C(P)=O) 2 framework that is important for this purpose. A masking agent for Re was not found in this study.

Um sistema de injeção em fluxo sensível e simples foi desenvolvido para separação, pré-concentração e determinação de tálio. A pré-concentração é baseada na sorção do analito em uma microcoluna de dibenzo-18-coroa-6 (DB18C6) imobilizada em alumina revestida com surfactante e subseqüente eluição com solução de ácido nítrico (500 µL, 2 mol L -1 ). A concentração de tálio no eluente foi determinada por espectrometria de absorção atômica com atomização eletrotérmica. Os fatores que influenciaram a sorção e dessorção de íon tálio foram investigados. Para um volume da amostra de 5 mL, a calibração foi linear no intervalo de 0,1 a 20 µg L -1 (r = 0,9996) com um limite de detecção de 0,05 µg L -1 . A capacidade máxima de sorção foi de 1432 µg de tálio por grama do sorbente. A precisão do método para 1 µg L -1 foi 5,7% RSD (n = 11). O método foi aplicado para determinação de tálio em água, cabelo, unha e em materiais de referência certificados. A exatidão foi avaliada empregando experimentos de adição e recuperação ou por comparação dos resultados com materiais de referência certificados.A simple and sensitive flow injection system was developed for separation, preconcentration and determination of thallium. Preconcentration is based on the analyte sorption on a microcolumn of dibenzo-18-crown-6 (DB18C6) immobilized on surfactant coated alumina with subsequent elution using a nitric acid solution (500 µL, 2 mol L -1 ). The concentration of thallium in the eluent was determined using electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. Factors influencing the sorption and desorption of thallium ion were investigated. Using a sample volume of 5 mL, the calibration was linear from 0.1 to 20 µg L -1 range (r = 0.9996) with a detection limit of 0.05 µg L -1 . The maximum sorption capacity was 1432 µg of thallium per gram of sorbent. The precision of the method at 1 µg L -1 was 5.7% RSD (n = 11). The method was applied for determination of thallium in water, hair, nail, and standard reference samples. The accuracy was assessed using addition-recovery experiment or by comparison of the results with certified reference materials.
