Complexes Containing a Hexaaza Schiff Base Ligand

Abstract: Complexes of a tetradentate macrocyclic Schiff base ligand L with cadmium(II) and mercury(II) ions have been synthesized by the template condensation reaction of l,10-phenanthroline-2,9-dicarboxaldehyde, 1,2phenylenediamine and 1,2-dibromoethane in ethanol medium. The complexes with the semioxidized ligand were characterized through 1R, 'H NMR, EPR and electronic spectral studies, conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements. An octahedral geometry has been suggested for the radical complexes, wich ha… Show more

“…82 The Schiff base 1, formed from template condensation of 1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-dicarbaldehyde, 1,2-phenylenediamine and 1,2-dibromomethane in EtOH forms complexes with both cadmium and mercury. 83 In the complexes of 3-ferrocenylacrylic acid [M(C 5 H 5 FeC 5 H 4 CHCHCO) 2 ) 2 ] (M Zn or Hg) the carboxylic moiety of the ligand binds to the metal centres in a symmetrical bidentate chelating mode. 84 Photophysical and other spectroscopic properties have been investigated for [Zn(Fctpy) 2 ][PF 6 ] 2 .…”
