Complex films formed on Al alloy surface via vapor phase assembly of benzotriazole and dodecyltrimethoxysilane

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of vapor assembly sequence and assembly temperature on the corrosion protection of the complex silane films Al alloy. The performance and application range of silane films are enhanced. Design/methodology/approach The complex silane films were successfully prepared on the surface of aluminum alloy using via vapor phase assembly of 1,2,3-benzotriazole (BTA) and dodecyltrimethoxysilanes (DTMS). The protection of the assembly films against corrosion of Al… Show more

“…At room temperature, the carbon steel specimen was placed at the bottom end of the aluminium tube into a 1 L bottle with 10 mL of 35% glycerol aqueous solution. After 20 h, the ice water was added to the aluminium tube and observed after 3 h. After the VIA test, the carbon steel surface was thoroughly rinsed with deionised water to remove the residual solution, then dried with nitrogen flow [13,14]. The surface corrosion morphology of the carbon steel sample was observed using the field emission scanning electron microscope (SEM, JSM-7800F, JEOL, Japan).…”

“…When the current is 0 A, the flat and dense product film is formed and completely covers the surface of A1050, A5052 and A7075, as seen in Figures 5a, 5c and 5d. This film structure effectively blocks the permeation of aggressive ions and retards the subsequent corrosion process (Huang et al, 2023;Wang et al, 2023). By contrast, the corrosion product film on the A2024 presents obvious cracks, as shown in Figure 5b, leading to poor protection and a fast corrosion rate.…”
