Completion Architecture: A Methodology for Integrated Well Planning

Abstract: We examine how well completion design is governed by subsurface characteristics, surface environment, and state of technology. We present a methodology of well design that takes into account geology, drilling, reservoir, and operational characteristics and constraints. The method selects pertinent configurations for well trajectory, formation completion, and wellbore components to segment, route, lift, and monitor the flow stream. We discuss how this methodology is derived from case histories in land, platform… Show more

“…A CBR framework was developed by Schlum‐berger to assess the applicability of seven lift methods for land, platform, and subsea wells (Sinha, Yan, and Jalali 2003). Abel, Silvaa, Campbell, and De Rosc developed a CBR system to support the interpretation and classification of new rock samples (Abel, Reategui, and Castilho 1996).…”

“…A CBR framework was developed in Schlumberger to assess the applicability of seven lift methods for different drilling operations such as land and platform [29]. It works through decoupling the well design into a high-level or conceptual design phase and allowing for interactions between phases.…”
